For the record, the primary difference between the comic and it’s underlying reality is that none of my friends actually play this game with me. I have exactly one friend on my friends list. He and I so rarely play at the same time, I can only assume he’s a distant cousin of the Polkaroo.

I’ve recently taken to generating female characters in RPGs for no other reason than it’s different. It raises a lot of questions about my views on gender roles and perceived sexuality, which makes for some interesting conversation until it boils down to the deeper truth that it’s really not that big a deal to me. I just figure that if I’m going to be staring at someone’s back for dozens of hours it might as well be pretty.

Now, here’s where I’ve run into a more interesting existential snag. You see, the customization options in Star Trek Online‘s character creator are rather robust, and in my pursuit of creating an attractive female Captain I inadvertently recreated my significant other. We’re talking hair and eye color, complexion, and body type to a degree of accuracy it’s almost savant. I had to have this pointed out by my mother. Awkward.

So this is now a comic is born. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to rank Captain.

Ja.
